A few words from The Kukang Rescue Program:
We are zoologists and conservationists fighting the illegal wild animal trade and seeking, in particular, to protect the Sunda slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) and the Sumatran slow loris (Nycticebus hilleri) – poisonous primates who fall victim to their cuteness. Since 2014 we have been running a non-profit organisation on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of which we have built a rescue and rehabilitation centre for confiscated lorises in order to return them back to the wild. We work with local communities, on several levels. We educate local children in which we develop a positive relationship with nature. We employ former poachers who are now our field assistants. We also create conservationists from local farmers by supporting the "Kukang Coffee" friendly coffee growing project. In addition, we help them resolve conflicts with wild animals. The main purpose of all our efforts is to reduce the rate of illegal trade (not only) in lorises and thus to protect populations (not only) of these endangered animals in the wild.
