"Although none of us would wish it, our work also includes care of children. Most often it is accidents, collapses, febrile convulsions, acute laryngitis, abdominal pain, epilepsy and other health complications.
In order to make it at least a little easier for children in these stressful situations, we carry a rescue dog in the ambulance. We give the plush toy to our little patients to ease their pain and stress during treatment. Sometimes it is necessary to give a toy to a child who, although not themselves in need of our care, is in a stress situation, such as when we are caring for a loved one. So, again, it is about trying to alleviate worry and tension. We try to make the whole process of pre-hospital care as pain-free and as low-impact as possible for our young patients.
The rescue dog, whose godfather is the well-known Czech actor Saša Rashilov, has also become the mascot of our rescue service, which is why we have three large dogs in addition to the small ones. We take them with us to various events where we show our ambulances and their equipment to the public. These include the national 155 Line Day, the global Restart a Heart Day event and joint events with other IZS units.
